As an example, and you would probably agree too, that movie theater popcorn will always taste better than any microwavable popcorn. Making popcorn in an air fryer takes a little bit of skill and sort of goes against certain rules you would normally adhere to when using an air fryer, but it is possible, and the popcorn tastes delicious.

First thing you need to do is tightly line your basket with aluminum foil. Even though it will block the perforated holes needed for air flow, line it well, you don’t want the kernels falling through into any of the air fryers components which can cause damage. The air in the machine will still pop the kernels very well, just like a popcorn machine would. The trick is to slightly coat ¼ of a cup of kernels in a good oil like olive or avocado oil and distribute them evenly throughout the basket. 15 minutes at most should be all they need to pop perfectly. This does require you to watch to ensure the popping seems to be controlled and not shooting kernels into the fan or other components of the machine.
